30 Years Ago Today 10th December 1995 Highest Ratings for a Radio Show in Perth Age 28 Drive Time Talk Back Radio Show 4-6pm Mondays to Fridays In 1995 i was asked to create & present a new drive time talk back radio show in Perth today 30 years ago on 10th December i got news of the highest ratings for a radio show in Perth Australia, where i had on average one hundred thousand people in Perth listening to my talk back radio show in those days the late talk back radio host was the late Howard Sattler known as King of Talkback radio but i didn't realise at that time age 28 in 1995 that i would go through a very testing 3 years of my personality, character, resilience, empathy - i always remember those words --- don't become a monster to destroy a monster - basically late Howard Sattler made myself a target for 3 years from 1996 to 1998 he was upset could say envious jealous that as a young 28 year old radio journalist i had already received a human rights award for best media report at the human rights awards of Australia in Sydney at the Human Rights Commission so in Perth in the 1990's lots of people we're dying on the roads of Perth from teenagers stealing cars - each time there was a death at night Howard Sattler would go on a rampage of hate & anger towards youth like stating good riddance to bad rubbish and allowing the elderly to say racist degrading things about youth so in the end i took action in my heart for what my Mum taught me is always show empathy raise the bar of empathy allow community to engage with each other i have the skills knowledge patience understanding so when a man lost his wife and kids on a pink Volkswagen lots of hate and anger on Sattlers talkback show so i rang my Mum & we spoke about this is my chance to raise the empathy bar in life so i rang the man who just lost his wife & kids in a car crash and in the end he wanted to come into my talkback show and forgive the teenagers for killing his family in such a horrific car crash i sat there interviewed him live with one hundred thousand people listening from 4 - 6pm i had people ringing in saying this is what life's about mate you allowing us to talk to him and give comfort so for the next 3 years from 1996 - 1998 late Howard Sattler continued to bully me on live radio but in the end over 20 people every day in the streets of Perth came up to me and gave me hugs cause they knew i was a man full of compassion after 4 years i resigned and moved on in life in 1999 creating new radio shows for community radio stations
